Having been planning to visit the Olching Bird Park for quite some time, we took the opportunity to kill two birds with one stone* and combine a visit to SC Olching with a trip to the Vogelpark. The bird park was well worth the bike ride alone, but seeing the lovely Amperstadion on a gloriously sunny day made for a great way to spend a Saturday.
*Naturally, you understand no birds were harmed in the making of this blog post, it’s purely an expression.
Like so many grounds at this level, right after buying your ticket, you’re confronted with the bar (more like hutch) and, well, it would be rude not to.
The Amperstadion is a nice, wooded, ground with a grassy banking at one end which (it turns out) offers a surprisingly bad view of the game namely because of all the trees. Never mind, strolling down the sides and at the other end with pint in hand more than makes up for that. It also provides good shade with the sun beating down.
The other notable feature is the archery field (?) track (?) area (?) running down one touchline just behind the dugouts. I must admit it was the first time I’ve been to a ground with this next door and hopefully they don’t partake of both sports simultanously or things could get very hairy.
The game itself was a lively affair in which we managed to miss all the goals. 0-0 at half time, in the second half our minds started to wander towards taking some photos not just drinking and watching footie and so 1st goal (photos), 2nd goal (toilets) and 3rd goal (back to the bar) were missed. And Olching romped home to a solid victory without us.
Ah well, as Cloughie said, it takes a second to score a goal, but apparently much longer to pee and queue up for refreshments.
Final Score: 3-0
